How to manually download a new vegas mod

FOMM can do the extracting itself which I think makes it easier, all you need to do is click package manager then click add FOmod in the package manager window and then choose the archived mod you downloaded and it will be added to FOMM for you to install.

Vortex is also a nice alternative. It gives you notifications of what you should do first before installing mods, like installing nvse it downloads and installs it directly from the application , mod deployment method, etc. It also somehow has built-in LOOT to sort the mods, so every time you download and install a mod, it sorts the load order.
